"Hey Pete, I'm 6'1.5, 345lb and 19 years old. Ive been a big guy pretty much my whole life and I'm sick of it especially the "man boobs". I eat 2 meals a day and with small snacks in between.I use to workout(age 16-17) for about 3 hours in a day twice a week. My workout was just crunches and running on a treadmill. My goal is to basically drop to a healthy weight and to have a ripped body somewhat like yours. Should I go back to cardio for a while until I reach a better weight then start weight lifting or just hit the weights now? Any advice...workout, food...etc would be great. Thanks!"
"Can the body only absorb a certain amount of protein? I want to take the appropriate amount of protein a day (my body weight) but I also don't want to waste my money by taking TOO much and wasting."
"Hi Peter, Thanks for reposting the video of your response to my question on cardio. I've started running after lifting and it seems to be going well. I have another question - this time on protein intake. The recommended amount of protein seems to vary widely from 1 gram per POUND of body weight to 2 grams per pound. Obviously, that is a huge difference in consumption and, given that I weigh 244 lbs (I'm 6 ft 5 in with a 34" waist), calls for an appetite that ranges from the merely voracious (240 grams of protein) to the absurd (480 grams). Unless I start including a couple salmon filets and a dozen egg whites with each meal, I don't see how that sort of intake is reasonable. I've recently been guided by the relatively moderate 1.2 grams of protein per KILOGRAM of body mass. Besides matching metric with metric it translates to approximately 130 grams of protein which is far more easily satisfiable. However, I can't tell yet if I'm hindering my progress though deprivation. My diet is ascetically clean - oats in the morning, fresh vegetables with whole grains and lentils etc - but much of the complete protein I get comes from the milk, yogurt, and protein powders i put in my shakes. Any thoughts of the quantity and/or source of my protein? Thanks Peter, Chris "
