"Hi Pete, I keep getting differing and conflicting advice about incorporating cardio into my strength training. I lift five days a week (Chest Monday, Back Tuesday, Shoulders Wed, Legs Thurs, Arms Fri) I shoot for six exercises per day. At this point I'm just doing three sets of 12-15 per exercise with 90 second rest in between eat set (though I will eventually up it to four sets of 10-12, and later to five sets of 8-10, before taking it back down to three of 12-15). My lifting work out takes between 40 and 60 minutes (depending on which "mode" I am in. So when do I do cardio? People tell me not to do it before the workout citing the need to retain my strength for the lifting. Others tell me not to do it after the lifting because it will hinder repair of muscle fiber during the active rebuilding time - plus, after an hour of lifting, i find I'm often too tired to run 4 miles in 35 minutes. Is the only solution to separate the two? Do, for example, lifting in the early morning and cardio in late afternoon? Or might it be better to stick with doing cardio on weekends alongside my yoga classes? Love your advice, hope to hear from you Chris"
