Hormone Panel, Pics, Turmeric Tea,
Posted on Tuesday January 22, 2008 by Pete

I just did a saliva hormone panel to test my testosterone, dhea, dht and estradiol levels.  It's always good to make sure your hormones are in balance, and also to see if the test booster that I'm taking, T Bomb II, is working to a certain degree.  What is convenient is that The Vitamin Shoppe now sells the saliva kit, so that you don't have to go to a testing place to get it done.  The sample is freezing now and I'll send it off today before I go into the gym to train my clients.

I posted the pictures from the Solar Tan Thru Swimwear shoot the other day - I think they came out pretty good especially for feeling a bit sick.  I prefer doing indoor shots with lots of baby oil gel and weights as props, but it is cool to do something different, and outdoors.  I'm scheduling some shoots with some fitness models here and will probably shoot at the end of February and March before going out to LA to do a bunch of shoots out there in April.

Yesterday at The Vitamin Shoppe, I was talking to this guy there that is very knowledgeable and he was explaining the benefits of Turmeric Tea to me.  So, I'm having Turmeric Tea right mixed with acai right now; it's a pretty good combination.  I try to have tea every day whether it is white, green or red or a combination of the 3.  My goal is to only drink water, tea and acai, but sometimes I crave soda and I cave, but for the most part I've been able to stick to my plan.  Here is some detailed information on turmeric tea.

Healthy Turmeric Tea

By Brad Lemley

A spicy dish of Indian biryani and a hot dog purchased at the ball game may seem to have little in common, but both feature a liberal quantity of turmeric (Curcuma longa). In the biryani, the spice is an essential part of the curry mixture that gives the dish its distinctive zing. In the dog, turmeric is what makes the slathering of American mustard bright yellow.

The good news about this cross-cultural spice is that elderly villagers in India, who eat turmeric in their daily curries, have the world's lowest rate of Alzheimer's disease. That does not appear to be a coincidence. In a study at the University of California at Los Angeles, scientists fed curcumin, an active compound in turmeric tea, to rats prone to accumulate beta-amyloid plaque in their brains - the abnormality associated with Alzheimer's disease in humans. Curcumin blocked the plaque's accumulation. It also appeared to reduce inflammation related to Alzheimer's disease in neural tissue.

The rats fed curcumin also performed better on memory tests than rats on normal diets.

Other studies have suggested turmeric has broad anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer effects as well. But few Americans eat enough curry to achieve these protective effects. Although Dr. Weil does not recommend daily mustard-laden hot dogs as the ideal turmeric delivery device, he found a potential solution during one of his many trips to Okinawa, the island nation with the world's longest average life span, 81.2 years.

Okinawans drink copious quantities of turmeric tea. Some brew it fresh, but others simply buy cans or powdered instant versions of unsweetened tea from their local stores. Inspired, Dr. Weil teamed up with Ito En, the world's largest green tea manufacturer, to create a turmeric tea for the American market.

"I worked hard to make turmeric tea available in the U.S., in part because I would like to drink it myself," said Dr. Weil. "Now, I'm glad to say it's finally here."

Patient Perseverance: Tumeric is, as you point out, a beneficial substance. I recommend Source Naturals "Life Force Multiple" vitamins. It is important for men to get the "no iron" version (since iron lowers testosterone levels). It not only contains 25 mgs of tumeric rhizime extract (95 % curcumin), but also green tea, grape seed extract, and many other important things. The lowest price I have found is on Vitacost.com.
