Breakfast and Number of Sets

"Sup Pete My question is about meal replacement shakes and supplements. More often than not, I rarely feel like eating breakfast. I just never have the urge to want to eat when I wake up, and can usually go for hours and not want to eat. Being that I'm trying to lose weight this is not good. It often leads to me over eating, during later meals. The only way I see to deal with this is substituting with a meal replacement shake. What is your advice on doing so, how to choose right product, along with pros vs cons of relying on shakes for weight loss efforts. Also along with picking a proper daily supplement while trying to loose weight. As usual thank you man for being so helpful"
"Pete, I may have asked this before but I've gotten so many responses to this question that I don't even remember. In your last Q&A you said you do 3 sets of 7 different workouts for a specific body part equalling to 21 sets total. Should I apply that rule to ALL muscle groups? Shoulders are a smaller muscle than quads so would I be overtraining my shoulders if I did the same number of sets(21) as my legs? Whats your opinion on that? -Jack"

JANCY: hi sexy, looking forward to see your sexiest video, preferably in micro-briefs, if possible, thanks05/28/2010
Peter Adonis: IIIthreat makes a good point and it is not only applicable to diet, but training as well. A certain training volume for one person would overtrain them, while for another it would be suitable. As an ectomorph myself, I am also able to eat a bit more liberally than some of my mesomorph, endomorph clients who merely look at a plate of pasta and gain weight. The beautiful part about the fitness lifestyle is that the longer that you train, the more you (not a textbook, a trainer, a nutritionist) start to understand your own body's unique needs both nutritionally and with training. So, by staying in the fitness game for the long-haul, you have a better chance at success, as you adjust accordingly along the way. -Peter05/28/2010
IIIThreat: As a fitness instructor and personal trainer myself I find that nutrition is definitely a case-by-case basis. What works for some will not work for others. For instance, my body type is very ectomorphic, so my diet is drastically different than most of the people I train: I eat seven, sometimes eight meals a day in order to keep my blood sugar from dropping, and giving me enough energy to even be able to function. I also eat up to an hour before going to bed. I agree with a lot of what Pete is saying, but there are considerations when discussing nutrition: 1) physiology of the individual, 2) activity level, and 3) allergies (there are others, but these seem to be the most important considerations). That's why it's important to visit a nutritionist if you are going to drastically change your diet to be more in tune with your workout program. A nutritionist can tailor-make eating plans that are just for you that are healthy, and will keep you from hurting yourself.05/26/2010
JCVEGasBoi: Hey Pete, It's JC again. I have a comment on this ... the way I found to counteract the whole "not hungry, so I'm not eating breakfast" thing is to make sure I do not eat anything 4 hours prior to going to bed. I have read that eating within a 4 hour period of going to bed actually is very bad for you for a number of reasons. The biggest reason is that when you go to bed, your metabolic rate slows drastically for resting, breathing purposes, muscle rebuilding, etc. thus causing digestion to slow and food to literally begin to rot in your stomach! The most common reason studies show that people are not hungry and skip breakfast is because the body hasn't finished digesting the food eaten the previous night. But of course, people just forget as well. By implementing this rule of not eating within a 4 hour window of going to bed, I have increased my weight loss results drastically. This also makes it almost impossible for me to skip breakfast. I eat every 2.5 to 3 hours. You definitely know your stuff! :D *JCAdd a Comment
